Gisella C1789 (formerly ‘Julia’)

Gary Edwards is a cabinet maker and carpenter with a keen interest in boats who salvaged and rebuilt C40 Sarah in 1985. He commissioned Ken Lacco to design “big 21 footer” for fishing out of Barwon Heads and built her in his shed at his home in Barwon Heads. Constructed with Spotted Gum keel, stem and stern post, Kauri planking, Oregon deck beams and Queensland Beech decking. Named ‘Julia’ after Gary Edwards daughter.
• C1789 was purchased by Jamie Spencer in 2000 and sailed at Sorrento in division 2 from 2000 to 2004.
• C1789 was purchased in 2004 by John Lessels and sailed at Paynesville.
• C1789 was then purchased in 2009 by Scott Botterill and sailed out of Patterson Lakes
• C1789 was then purchased in 2014 by Andrew Somerville and sailed at Paynesville
• C1789 was then purchased by Graeme Mee and Colin Arcaro in 2017, renamed “Gisella”, refitted and relocated to SSCBC
• Colin Arcaro sold his share to Graeme Mee in 2019

• Original Volvo engine replaced early 2000’s with a Yanmar 2YM15
• Tabernacle mast modification 2009 by Timber Boat Works Paynesville for use at Patterson Lakes.
• Keel repairs and centre case replaced 2014 by Timber Boat Works Paynesville.
• Three bladed propeller replaced 2017 with Austral two bladed propeller
• Ballast increased from 500kg to 845kg 2017
• New sails by Doyle Sails Melbourne 2018
